My High School Experience
Several things came up for me while reading John Gatto's "Against School: How School Cripples our Kids..." I remembering being humiliated in class from a teacher and my classmates when I would get an answer wrong, so I just learned to keep my mouth shut. Then when I was in high school I was in the advanced classes and all my friends were in the lower two classes so I started using drugs, getting in trouble and it was not long before I was placed in the same classes with my friends. I no longer had to work hard to get a good grade. I had a teacher after lunch that was always stoned and would sleep through the whole class. I lost all desire to learn or to try. I just gave up.
